Two weeks ago, I sold ten Hot Wheels for $40. I'm STILL waiting for payment. The frustrating thing is the cars were only worth that much because they were brand new and hard to find; with every passing day, the value drops. I've come to accept that I'm not getting my money (and he's not getting his cars), but if I relist them, I'll be lucky to get half of what I "sold" them for this time.

People are garbage. I once had a guy refuse to pay for a cell phone because his claimed his father died and now he was too emotionally upset to pay. He wasn’t too upset to fuss at me for filing a non-paying bidder report and tell me that I could just relist it (wasting the 10 days it was already for bid ) and anyway, he was an Ebay much longer than me and therefore he was justified at being a deadbeat.

This is why I only do fixed price listings now, with immediate payment required. I also have my settings set to prevent buyers with 2 unpaid strikes in a 12 month period from buying. If it doesn’t sell in a week or 2, I drop the price.

Even then, t here’s still enough assholes to deal with. There are theives out there that would claim they got the package, but 2 of the cars were missing. And eBay will just take their word for it. You can’t even leave a negative feedback for the buyer. This is why eBay is failing, they don’t appreciate small sellers, which are the majority of their listings. Their leadership is more concerned with directing traffic to big retailers. We don’t need another Amazon. Ebay was unique in itself, but management has no idea tha t they are slowly destroying the platform with their strategies. They need to follow up when buyers are reported. If the buyer opens a case on every single item they purchase, they need to be banned permanently. I’ve had instances where I can see the buyer has a history of leaving negative feedback on almost everything they’ve purchased, just to get refunds or to manipulate the seller to send another item. Eb ay has no algori th m to catch these people. O n the r are occasion they terminate an account, the person can just setup a new one in 5 mins, using the same mailing address but a different email.

Agree, I started on eBay when it was young and if you were trading in certain niches it was a bit of a community. In the early days it seemed like most of the protection was for sellers, at this point it has flipped too far in the opposite direction.

The fees used to be reasonable to, I seem to recall selling things for 3-4% or so in the early days, now with fees and PayPal it is like 13-14% which is ridiculous.

It used to be you could buy and sell old used car parts for reasonable prices, and fees, now the place it clogged with steering covers and license plate frames and used parts dealers that list the same crap at inflated prices over and over again in hopes they will strike gold.

I don't sell there anymore and only buy as a last resort.
